Ottawa Capital Toastmasters Club

I was with this club from 2013 to 2019. Not only did I learn a lot, I enjoyed meeting and interacting with an amazing team of people who had the most interesting stories and perspectives to share, and who consistently offered a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The best gift I received from this team of amazing people was to learn to be comfortable speaking out of the cuff; I remember how I used to dread the Table Topics sessions! But the team was so supportive that I eventually got over the nervousness. It was also with this club that I sought input for a piece that helped me secure a spot in a leadership program in my organization, which opened many doors for me thereafter. To this day, I recommend Toastmasters to anyone who wishes to gain more confidence, and learn valuable communication skills that not only translates into the workplace but in day-to-day life. It does take commitment, discipline, and dedication, but it is all worth it!

I could never have known that I would enjoy speaking in public. Capital Toastmasters has helped me become someone who is comfortable with an audience...and that from someone who could barely introduce themselves at the start!

I joined to work on my public speaking skills and then realized that there was a lot more that I could learn from being in a group of supportive members. Move my schedule around to make sure I dont miss a meeting.

I joined Capital Toastmasters about 2 years ago because I wanted to deliver a mother-of-the-bride speech without crying. Capital Toastmaster allowed me not only to deliver the speech without crying, I thrived delivering it! I was a member of Capital Toastmasters from 2008-2013. In the ensuing years, I still tried to drop in from time to time, and several friendships formed during my time at the club endure. I cannot think of a better community educational endeavour than the program Toastmasters has -- it's not just about giving a speech in public, but a thoroughgoing system that forms you to communicate clearly in a wide array of situations, as well as develop your critical skills. Capital is one of the oldest Toastmasters clubs in Ottawa, and I own so much to my time there both personally and professionally.
