We have come a very long way in our knowledge of this process since first coming to Hearing Life in November 2021. The technician that made my mother's hearing aids is no longer at this location, which I believe is for the best. My mother's initial hearing aids never worked for her, new ones were made, reluctantly, those didn't work well either. The free batteries ran out way sooner than what we were told they should, there was also one hearing aid not working at all times it seems, the volume buttons never worked, they were made too large at the start and made her ears ache...and on and on. We could never get an appointment at this location despite that my mom was very elderly and very deaf. We found little help by going to other locations of Hearing Life, they just kept saying bring her back. Eventually we just became too frustrated and we opted to change to Sherwood Park Costco Hearing Centre. Our first impression: the vast difference in the hearing testing between Costco and Hearing Life. Where Hearing Life tested for no more than 30 minutes, Costco's testing runs at least 85 minutes. Moreover, the testing process is much more in-depth & sophisticated and the techs share it with you. We had none of that at Hearing Life. A quick test, no questions were asked about lifestyle or health issues, next time we went, her hearing aids were already in a bag for her to take home. We deferred to the expertise of the hearing clinician because we were newbies. We expected a professional fitting. But that's far from what we got. When we returned to advise the first pair fell off when Mom moved, they were shortened, which didn't help. Second time we returned Mom asked for a style inside her ears. Angrily, the tech said she would book her to take molds. Molds were taken, they were made and were too big and never right. I guess I should mention too that customer service with Hearing Life isn't great. At any location. Frustratingly so when dealing with an octagenarian. With the Costco experience it wasn't our first rodeo. We knew to tell them Mom has arthritis in her hands. That she wants them set so background noise is minimized and she doesn't need to fiddle with volume, that she wants rechargeable and that she wants the tiniest microphone style in her ear they can give her with workings that slip over her ears. She ended up with a set of Phillips rechargeables, exactly as she wanted with very clear sound for $1,969. Because she used her government subsidy on the Hearing Life hearing aids that she scrapped, she had to pay for them herself. But willingly, considering the difference in her hearing and the value to her in her improved quality of life. I believe Hearing Life charged the government $1,200 for the ones that never worked. What is our hearing worth to us? I would encourage anyone to use Costco Hearing over Hearing Life. And keep returning until you are happy with the product you have. Costco gives you either 90 or 120 days to decide if you are happy depending on the brand you purchase. Work with them during that time or change to a different pair and your 90 or 120 days restarts. Hearing Life doesn't continue to do that in our experience. Costco covers loss and damage. Hearing Life doesn't. Costco also gives you free batteries for the life of the hearing aids. Again, Hearing Life doesn't, they give them for 3 years, not even until you're eligible for new subsided hearing aids. And unfortunately they're batteries are old which makes free batteries pretty useless anyway This is a long review, but if it can help one or two seniors or better yet one or two sons or daughters of elderly parents I'll be very happy
