I first found out about St. Raphaels when I went through AFM my last time in Aug.2018. When I got out in October I immediately went for an intake and joined the Men's Continuing Recovery Group. I can't say anything but good things about the place. I currently am an Addictions Counsellor and helping run a private treatment facility in Manitoba and I will continue to refer our clients to St. Raphaels as aftercare for them in hopes that it can help continue saving lives as it did mine. This place is a hidden gem that does amazing work. Thank you to everyone there.

My experience with St. Raphaels has been overwhelmingly positive. I benefit from the group setting and the one-on-one setting. My recovery might not have been possible without them.

Well it has been a very long journey with a life time of adventures and challenges and St Rafael has been a big part of my recovery and my sobriety. I have been with St Rafael for around 5 years on and off but in last year and an half I have really been committed to my recovery and maintaining a balance life style. I am currently in the Work Sober Program and in that program I have learned so much about myself and actually about dealing with ways of dealing with daily coping challenges that occur. Instead where in the past with these kind of situations, I would run from them or dealing with them in a negative way or even try to numb them with any kind of substance which would lead into alot more problems in my life. I find in this group, it's like a big family because we don't judge anyone that is there and we always are very welcoming to new comers that join our group. It is such nice environment where it's an open concept, where an individual will ask the group advise or where an individual can vent on challenging events that have occurred in their life. The group will suggest things or related their own personal experiences to that person so they don't feel alone. That way the individual can get out of the head and can actually deal with their problems instead of not running from it or turning to a substance abuse to forget about it. You feel so good after a meeting and sometimes it gives you a different positive reflection about your life. Now that I have been involved with this group for a while now and that I have been able to overcome alot of my life challenges. It makes me feel good to give back or o share my life experiences with others to help other overcome their difficult situations as does for alot of others in the group. Here is a real big life personal situation that I just came across that is really emotional to me right now. This shows how St Rafael is a big factor in my life now and how its keeping me sober and keeping me thinking straight. Last Thursday an hour before I had to go to our meeting. I found out my dad's cancer came back three times worse and now it's in both his lungs, in his liver and in his throat, after just being cleared cancer free three months ago from lung cancer. Where he just had 4 inches of cancer removed from his lung. I came to our meeting and we had our daily check in and I was pretty emotional but I usually don't show it. I was able to express my feeling and what was going on in my head. The support I received from the group was amazing and how I was able to express my feeling, where before I couldn't express nothing to anyone. But this group is very caring and encouraging and does help people deal with very difficult situations like this one. See my mom passed away just over 5 years ago do to cancer as well and my family had to find me cause she was on her death bed with only two weeks to live and she was like my best friend but I couldn't deal with it and I ended up running away to drugs thinking she would never die on me. So with my dad and his cancer and finally getting to a point of finally having the best relationship we have I have ever had with him in my life. I will be there for him and my family and I will spend as much time as I can with him. Even though I know it's not looking to good for him in the near future. Thanks to my group and St Rafael. I have come so far in life and now I am so more relaxed at looking at life because if you stay mindful and don't focus on the past or the future, you can overcome anything problem comes up without running away or turning to substance abuse. I really feel that St Rafael has been a big part in my recover to life a balanced lifestyle and that I can live a healthy life. Like I said before it's not just about stay sober it's actually learning about ife and handling life's challenges and living life to the fullest cause you never know what to expect for tomorrow and you can't change the past but you can except it and move on. Thanks St Rafael and the people that are giving back!!Signed Chris McGiffin
