I went to this store to shop for my daughter it was my first time in the store. I had shopped at GAP before and had no issues. When I entered the store I realized, my friend and I, both professionals, were being watched. I asked if there was anywhere I could leave my bags and they pointed to an area which I thought was unsafe. So I decided to keep my bags with me. Upon making this decision the manager and the other person who was profiling us came over and asked me to give them the things I was going to purchase. I told them it was okay as I was taking up my last item prior to cashing. They stood there and and abruptly demanded I give them the items. I was shocked and thought about leaving the store immediately but I decided to give them the items, pick up the last item then cash and leave ultimately avoiding a confrontation. when I went up to the cashier all our items where on the counter thrown down. We bought the items. Weeks later after it happened I realized the same person profiling us made sure she was at the counter watching us while we picked up the things. This did not happen to other persons that entered that day because they were not black. I called to complain the next day but was told one of the asian women was the manager. I reported it to the head office and of course they called and apologized. For me it does not change anything as my friend and I were obviously middle aged women and if we were treated like this how would a young black person be treated. It could have been my children having the police called on them because of profiling and accusations of stealing. Your clothing are geared for young people of all races yet you have very racist staff working there. My suggestions is put up a sign saying no black allowed so as to save a black family any embarrassment or worst any serious bodily harm to offspring or ones person.
