Mixed feelings about this place. Out of all the workers at the CRC who have talked to me, there was one in particular who was super empathic and understanding of my situation (maybe that worker was one of the rare ones). But to be fair, they tell you not to go into your full story and save that stuff for long term counselling.. However, I do think there should be a place where you can talk in detail about what you're going through, since the counselling waiting lists can be so long. THE DOWNSIDE: I had this "peer support worker" from the CRC who made me regret going to this place. She was more like a salesperson than a peer support worker. She was very pushy, kept trying to start me on medications. She described benzodiazepines like "curling up with a book on a cozy, rainy night". Very salesy. She wouldn't stop, even when I said I wasn't interested in trying any more meds. And when I told her that medications made my mental health a million times worse, her answer was simply that I should try a different medication, or I should try them for longer. My reaction to those medications was so bad that I would have killed myself had I continued on them. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think they should be very very very careful handing out meds to people with trauma from things like self harm. I'm pretty sure those medications made my anxiety and panic attacks a lot worse - these symptoms felt bearable before, but now they feel absolutely crushing. It wasn't this bad before I tried the meds. And since this place is tied to the CSU (Crisis Stabilization Unit), I'll talk a bit about them too. From my personal experience, most of the staff at the CSU seem okay. There's one or two staff that are super nice. HOWEVER, there's one guy in charge of the medications at night, and he kept trying to push me to use meds to deal with my sleeping difficulties while I was at the CSU, even when I said I didn't want to use meds for sleep. I've tried using those meds for sleep before, and IT NEVER GOES WELL. They make my anxiety and panic attacks a million times worse. That's why I said no, and I really did not appreciate this worker knocking on my door a 2nd time just to impatiently ask me "are you SURE you don't wanna try medications to help you sleep?" YES I'M SURE. I said no, I do not want to use those meds for sleep.
