Patrick Penner owned the building I was at and is also a principal owner of Armour Management according to that CBC expos. Both sides would play the "we're only the landlord, the owner is responsible for repairs"/"Patrick and Karin are really nice people, it's Armour that's disgusting" game.
Building security became an issue with squatters and vandalism and piles of garbage left behind. Would often take an entire month for doors to get "repaired" (they would just hammer the flimsy lock cover back into its original shape), piles of bloody isopropyl swabs sat in the hallway for over a month before getting cleaned up (see photo). Complain that things weren't being looked after and you'd get a lecture, or worse told to move out if you didn't like it.
Only time they ever showed any sense of customer service is when they apologized for our building's fire alarm malfunctioning for five days(!) before they got around to replying and fixing it.
They buy up more buildings than they can look after, and don't seem to care about any of their tenants' safety or general concerns. In my last week, two separate neighbours told me they'd had knives pulled on them inside the building.
