I would like to take this opportunity to publicly commend the principal Amanda Haworth for her leadership in dealing with ongoing safety issues between the Ecole Varennes and its neighbors. For 18 years my neighbor and I have spoken to and written to the principals at Ecole Varennes to deal with the unsafe problem of parents using the back alley as a drop off and pick up zone for their children. In fact we have even taken the matter to City Hall. During that time there have been near accidents; aggressive verbal confrontations including offensive gestures and even physical confrontations (parents cars left on, blocking homeowners from leaving for work, have been driven down the back alley). It was an obviously unsafe situation. While principals prior to Ms. Haworth have advised parents not to drop their children off in the back alley, Ms. Haworth took decisive action. Access to the front parking lot was made available from the back alley and decisively Ms. Haworth listened to us and posted signs that the back alley was not a drop off or pickup zone.
