Grace Toastmasters Winnipeg

For the past 7 years I have been sitting in on staff meetings and, despite knowing everyone in the room, was always so nervous when I had to present. I heard about Toastmasters years ago from a colleague and decided to get involved with a Toastmasters club in Winnipeg. Not only did my presentation skills and confidence increase but I also noticed that I became more apt to express my personal opinion in a wide range of circumstances...and to do so in a very effective and respectful way. I do not consider myself to get really nervous before a speech, however in my job I have a lot of varied and challenging communication situations. Grace Toastmasters Winnipeg has helped me approach these situations with more confidence. I also found that I am better able to walk into meetings without as much overall preparation as I have gained confidence thinking and speaking more effectively on my feet. When I first joined Toastmasters I was looking for a job and going through the interview process. I needed an opportunity to improve my speaking skills and give myself a confidence boost for my interviews. Now that I am working I continue to be active in Grace Toastmasters Winnipeg as I can see I still have a lot of room for improvement and the club continues to help me grow as a speaker. I first joined Toastmasters 30 years ago. My motivation for joining was my fear of public speaking. I was terrified. I heard about Toastmasters and decided to join a club in Winnipeg. Toastmasters, I soon found out, was definitely for me. I quickly gained confidence after completing a couple of speaking manuals and then moved to the District level. There I gained leadership skills that further boosted my confidence. What keeps me coming back now is that I simply enjoy the meetings which are always fun and continue to be challenging.
