Staying with Mary the matriarch is not a transaction its an exchange. You can go to Newfoundland and see the jaw dropping sights, walk the pristine coast and know the people are friendly because they smile, wave and offer you a beer - or you can enter a Newfoundlanders home and be enfolded into their family and learn that although youll never know why they are so friendly- you too have the capacity to enter a stranger and leave a piece of your heart. The food is bountiful and delicious, the conversation lovely, the knowledge of the trails unparalleled, the hiking service a dream come true, the rooms are spacious and clean. ,

I stayed at the Wild Roses for ten days and it was wonderful. The family is accommodating, warm and friendly, good nature and funny, can't beat that. I took the hikers package and without this service I would not have been able to do a good part of the breathtakingly beautiful East Coast Trail.
