Arrived at Quirpon with daughter and oldest grandson(21). Had a wonderful experience. Great place to unplug from the world for a few days. We did find a spot on the island that you could get service. Big highlight for grandson. Went for Zodiac tour and learned some history of the area. Meals were wonderful and the gals in the kitchen were top notch. Looking forward to visiting with hubby soon.

No, this isn't Fogo Island, with it's luxury modern digs, but you can't match it for the magical experience. I took my wife there for a surprise birthday trip in early July. Drove 4 days from Maryland to get there. Worth every mile. Great staff, great food. A communal dining room, and it seemed the other guests, being the type to make the effort to get there, were a pleasure to meet. This is the main highway for whales. We spent the evenings in the whale watching room (it wasn't as bad as another review said) with cocktails over iceberg ice. Want to see another whale. Wait a minute. My only regret is that we were too late for icebergs. They keep a supply in the freezer.

Quirpon Lighthouse Inn is an adventure like no other. From the time we arrived, to the time we sadly had to leave, this is a must if touring Newfoundland. The coastal views, the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks, the sounds and views of the whales that hang in the cove area.... this place is something. You'll enjoy the pleasant surrounding, the foxes running around, and did I say the views!? Home cooked meals for dinner and breakfast and of course the zodiac boat ride back to the wharf. Remember to bring hiking shoes. Owner and staff provided us with many stories. Love this place.

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of August. This place has so much potential - the island itself is remote and beautiful, the ladies who work there are lovely and friendly, and the food was very good. But the rooms are small and tired, the windows dont open, the bed was uncomfortable and the whale watching station was filthy. We hiked around the island, but some of the hikes are not well marked. For the cost of staying there, we felt a bit disappointed. We had booked a queen room with a private bathroom. Our bathroom was private but it was across the hall. There were rooms available with ensuite bathrooms but were told that we couldnt change. Dont get me wrong, we are glad that we stayed there, but for the price, it was disappointing.

Were we not been in the middle of a pandemic, likely, I would rate our experience as 4-star. Friendly staff, tasty food and whale-laden surroundings were highlights. Windows not opening in our upstairs bedrooms on a hot summer's day and close communal family-style seating with no chance of COVID avoidance were the low points. We hiked out to the Inn and took the boat ride back, and I recommend taking this approach, as the walk was enjoyable (except for the first 50 m where the path needed mowing and the dock was unstable).
