It turned out to be a very disappointing and expensive experience that I have still not quite recovered from. I arrived to be assigned a small, kind of dingy room and the air was very stuffy and stale, it actually smelled of "bad morning breath". The receptionist said that the window was broken so could not be opened. There was actually weather stripping hanging from the window, and the door lock was not functioning properly. I asked if another room might be available and was told no, even though there were 3 other rooms that appeared unoccupied. I said that I would not be able to stay in that room if the air could not be improved, especially with the threat of covid. I was told that nothing could be done and I would still be charged for the room in full, even though I was not going to stay there. I contacted the owner twice about it but never received a reply.

During a 10-day trip where I stayed at three inns and 2 BnBs, Carlisle House was the biggest disappointment and by far the worst value. The web site promised a newly-renovated inn, but the owner had cut corners everywhere. Her "renovation" included slapping paint on windows and walls without preparing the surfaces, so windows couldn't be opened and paint on the walls, ceiling and trim was already peeling and full of dried paint drips and other mistakes. One window was missing a screen and the screen for the second window had a huge round hole in it. The bathroom floor was stained sheet vinyl or linoleum that was cut badly and didn't fit the room. My room and bathroom had spiders, and the area between one wall and the headboard was solid cobwebs. There was so much dust that I immediately wiped some surfaces before unpacking. The rugs badly needed to be cleaned professionally with water and soap to get rid of decades of dirt and grime. Instead, they'd been vacuumed so they felt dirty. Most chairs and couches badly needed new foam padding. The owner failed to send me any written confirmation for the reservation with the price even though I emailed and called twice before arriving. Then she tried to charge me far more at checkout than the prices I'd seen online. On the bright side, three employees did the best they could to be helpful, and the breakfasts were good.
