Archadeck of Nova Scotia

We contacted Archadeck to replace an existing deck that had started to deteriorate. We indicated what we wanted and Archadeck came up with a design with input from us. Actually there were several designs presented to us, each one simulated as if it were already attached to our house, so we were able to see what the finished product would look like. Although it was a fairly lengthy process, all details were discussed so we knew exactly what we were getting. When the construction started, we were kept informed with the progress, and were impressed with the caliber of the carpenter who was very competent and courteous. The carpenter and the Construction Manager were always available to answer any questions we had and were very accommodating. We were very impressed with the completed deck, and feel that up front planning, good design and management, and the competent carpenter were responsible for the good result. We had a deck replaced in Oct 2019 after many months of waiting. It was initially to be part of bigger exterior renovation/siding project but we parted ways at a significant cost to us. The only way to recoup some of that cost was to go ahead with the deck. They used subcontractors. The inspector failed it for missing joist hangers and nails, stairs installed not to plan and unsafe and several other features not built according to plan. It was probably a month after the deck was " finished" that it finally passed inspection. Now with the deck less than 3 years old, we have to replace all the bottom rails as they installed the screws in such a way that the bottom rails all tear out. Our deck is 8 ft above grade and if you can imagine a youngster grabbing the spindles set in those faulty rails - they would be through them and down before you knew. This was a premium priced deck built at well below average standards and we are already paying to fix significant problems. It is how a deck stands up that counts, not the rose coloured glass views of 2 months when everything is fresh and new and the builder solicits reviews. Service: Deck installation
