A great company to work for and work with. Provides care in the home of my grandparents and they truly would not be able to be in their own home without this company. Truly the company with a heart!

Due to my deployment related injury and a catastrophic car accident, we felt it was important to get assistance in our home. It was not a decision we made lightly, and we researched and interviewed several companies. We went with Annapolis Valley Home Care because they are accredited and offered the services we required. We met with a supervisor and discussed our needs and were assured our expectations were reasonable and easy to fill. We requested one care provider as its easier for somebody with PTSD and TBI and were told we would have to wait a month until the new schedule was made. It was important to us so we opted to wait. Imagine our surprise when we were given two providers (thats how they do business). The supervisor had gone on holiday and didnt pass along any notes so we in essence had to go over everything with another supervisor. The first supervisor had mentioned safety issues and said she would write a letter (we would have welcomed such a letter but none was forth coming). The second supervisor, playing catch-up, sent a worker the week after Dorion hit the Annapolis Valley. The worker arrived at the door with no identifying ID card and didnt give her name. She did show me her binder when I asked who she was. She came into the house, didnt introduce herself but chatted with our dogs until my partner arrived. She was certainly friendlier and spoke more to the dogs than me. Given we still had no power, and it was obviously not a good fit we said she could go, and we would talk to the supervisor. We would have been satisfied to leave it at that. Today, we received a visit from the animal control officer. An anonymous report had been filed for unsanitary conditions and abuse to our dog. (They were quickly deemed unwarranted by the SPCA.) Since we have had no other people in our home, its highly unlikely it was anyone but our care worker. The level of violation of our privacy shook us to our core. Had there been concerns, about the condition of our home, why wasnt it raised with us or the supervisor? By filing an anonymous complaint, the appearance is of vindictiveness instead of any legitimate concern. If our animals were at risk why not file a report with the supervisor and assist us in correcting any problems? Note again: the complaints were all deemed unfounded. If we were living in an unsatisfactory, unsanitary environment, then in fact an attendant care worker would be in the ideal position to help rectify that. Further, thinking of other people who are receiving attendant care - I cannot help but be concerned how any one of their lives would be impacted by such unfounded, anonymous complaints. We are left feeling violated on so many levels. We have spoken to a supervisor and hopefully our concerns are addressed. Regardless, we will be using another company.
