Ferrisview Elementary

I have NVLD (Nonverbal Learning Disability) and I attended this school for 6 years (before the grade 6 classes, in Cape Breton at least to my knowledge, were put into middle schools. Absolutely horrendous treatment. They treated me as if my disorder/disability was fake and I didn't have it at all. I received none of my required accommodations and my parents had been suggested by the Principal at the time that I might do better in the Learning Center Class (a class for physically, mentally, neurologically, and physcolgically disordered/disabled kids). This would have hindered me in areas of my educational, social, and mental well-being by slowing the process down for me. Luckily I was spared that and had normal classes, though most of my teachers were just as big of bullies as the kids. NVLD is stated as having difficulties in math, science, any nonverbal cues such as face and voice expression. It also affects my spatial and coordination as well as sensory issues. I also have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). None of this was accommodated as required of them. I was also bullied by both students and teachers, though I couldn't properly comprehend as to why as a child. I was punished by teachers for standing up for myself, verbally and physically if needed, and mocked for my disability by students and teachers. Don't make your child attend this horrendous school with this outrageous treatment.

The kids have been attending this school for only a couple of months, and my son, who usually hates school, actually enjoys going to school now. The staff is very friendly and helpful and keeps me informed of how the kids are doing.
