Over the weekend of September 24th (Hurricane Fiona), we had booked rooms at the lighthouse motel for a wedding that we were attending in town. Before we got there, they had let us know that they were changing our rooms as some rooms would no longer be available because they are right on the water and prone to flooding ... no problem. They still proceeded to charge all of the rooms and we had a daunting time with figuring out refunds. When we got there, some rooms were given buckets, others were told to use their garbage bins and go down to the river.during a Hurricane to fill the bucket up in order to flush the toilet. The power ended up going out and did not return the whole weekend, not the owners fault. But after they gave us buckets, we were not checked on the whole weekend. If there was an emergency or a safety concern we would not have known where any first aid was and we had no cell service to make a call. We also did not have any refills on drinking water. We essentially had access to a room to change and a dark room to sleep. In the messages leading up to the stay we were not told that the facility did not have a backup generator and I know that most of the guests would have chosen to stay elsewhere. After our stay, some of the guests had sent emails to inquire about a partial refund for the stay ( it is quite an expensive place to stay with $210.00 per night some rooms upward of $350.00 per night booked almost a year in advance) and the owner Marc, instead of emailing back and letting us know that he was not thinking about refunds at the time, proceeded to leave a threatening voicemail and a had a phone call to the bride, degrading the guests stating that we were poor excuses for humans and in his exact words if I get one more email from your guests, I SWEAR TO GOD... The unprofessionalism from this business is why Ive given them a 1 star . They should never talk about or treat paying guests like this ever and if you arent able to host guests during Nova Scotias well known hurricane season then maybe you should close before that season starts and the least you can do is provide your guests with some sort of support.
