Dr. Soma (Gnanasekaram Somasekaram) has a negative attitude. He is often difficult to deal with and difficult to communicate with. Instead of resolving problems, he creates them. I dont think he genuinely interested in helping his patients, and honestly, I dont think he cares about his patients at all. It is unfortunate that our medical health system and the shortage of medical doctors went so bad that many Nova Scotian has no choice other than depending on someone like Dr. Soma. We dont treat each other this way in Canada. Childish, rude, and unprofessional behavior is not appropriate for a health care provider. Im sure that in another country, where there is abundance of medical doctors competing with each other, someone like Dr. Soma wouldnt survive, because patients would simply switch to another doctor, an option is not available here.

As previously mentioned, the reception ladies are wonderful. Dr Soma, not so much. He is rude, dismissive, uninterested and very unprofessional. Phone appointments are booked "sometime after 12" for example. God forbid if you take, oh let's say, a work related call. The unknown or private number calls in. You try, but miss it. The message will say you you didn't answer so call and make another appointment. They take about 7-10 days, and I am nearly out of my blood pressure meds as was clear in my email to his office 7 days before The pharmacy sends him a fax, nothing. Heading out of town tomorrow. He missed diagnosed a very serious hiatus hernia that landed my husband in the hospital for 6+ weeks. A very sick man. Dr Soma also dismissed our concerns about my husband having makers for Parkinson's after his stay in the hospital. He was diagnosed a few months ago. That same visit, he jumped up after saying if there is anything else, call and make another appointment. He then went into the room next door and came out with his dog. He is not very well liked around these parts.

First and foremost, the receptionist is amazing, no issues there at all. Although I consider myself very lucky to have a family doctor, Dr Soma has been consistently rude and dismissive to myself and others close to me. Unless you know exactly what prescription you need and can just go in, ask for it, and leave, I would strongly recommend against booking in with him to try to ask for help with any issues, you'd be better off driving into a walk-in clinic somewhere else. Both myself and a family member have booked phone appointments with him and never received a call, and even when you go into the office he treats you like an inconvenience and makes you feel awful for asking for help or having any health issue in the first place. I booked multiple appointments over the span of a year complaining about the same pain every time, and he still insists nothing is wrong. He tries to end the appointment as quickly as possible, Googles basic facts about a condition right in front of you, and has responded to a family member asking how long the wait time for a specialist was by saying "Well obviously I'm not God, so I wouldn't know." in frustration. I have actively avoided seeking healthcare against the guidance of 811 because it is so tiring and sad to go through appointments with him. Would not recommend.
