Oakland Hall Inn

Came here for a work Christmas dinner. We were given a pre-chosen menu with 2 options for each course. The food was good, but not amazing. The place itself is very historic and cozy feeling, I enjoyed eating there. We only had one person serving us which made it quite slow as well.

I can't speak highly enough. Service was outstanding; only surpassed by the food. I had a beautiful Buffalo steak with a raspberry sauce my first time visiting Oakland Hall. The next time was a wonderful mushroom risotto. Officially my favorite restaurant in Aurora.

The service was nonexistent for our table and I assumed it was because we were the only ones who were not regulars. We had to remind the waitress to take our order thirty minutes after we were seated. This also included reminders for the bread & butter, removing our plates after the starters and entrees, refilling the water glasses and a rude comment that we were only allowed a new year tiara/hat per person then left before giving all our members one. All these things made it seem as if they were not interested at all in serving our table. When we made our reservations, we were informed them that a member of our party was celebrating her birthday. We confirmed the details when we arrived and it was noted in our reservations but when the desserts came nothing was done. On top of that, when our bill came it included a 16% gratuity which wasn't deserved at all. When I think of fine dining I think of great food and service in the likes of Jacob's Steakhouse, Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto and Auberge de Pommier and unfortunately Oakland Hall Inn falls short of the service. I ended up giving Oakland Hall Inn two stars as the service couldn't take away from the fact that the food was excellent.
