I had this fly by night wanna be bail on me for a small kitchen reno, had him do a bathroom reno install drywall on ceiling install tiles on a floor and paint bathroom ceiling and wall, I.could have done a better job myself, told me that he had a crew, allways showed up when he felt like putting in a few hours of work in and allways left a mess behind a 2 day job turned into 2 weeks, this guy does not even have his driver's license he gets around by cabs what a joke lol I would never recommend Mike unless you want enemies lol.

Mike Hornsey came in and seemed like a very trustworthy and experienced contractor, but make no mistake, appearances are deceiving. Save yourself some trouble and go with someone else. I dealt with him over a period of about 4 months after contracting him for help with two projects. One, a basement reno involving: tile repair, drywall, door install, and paint. The other, finishing a home extension interior: including drywall, tile installation, door installation, trim, and paint. Mike relied heavily on random contractors he was finding online while work was under way. Random people showed up and did some work, with Mike doing odds and ends, the trim and finishing up some of the painting himself. Every random sub-contractor was only working with Mike for the first time and I got an earful from them along the way. The tiling was done nicely, although by a tiler that was quite a character himself and ended up swearing never to work with Mike again. The drywall is hit and miss, some spots look good, others are still poorly cut, still showing large gaps, around lights and plugs. The trim is best if you don't look too close. The paint is passable. We sort of finished the work on the extension project. Or at least as far as Mike was concerned. He bailed on the basement project shortly after starting it. He took a shot at the tiling himself to poor result. Some tiles got cut and glued but grout, tile spacers, and measuring were not on Mike's agenda. He also knocked out some other tile, leaving it in a demolished state, made a mess and bailed. Never to be seen again. To his credit he was honest to at least leave the key behind. Very little pride in craftsmanship here. If you go with Mike, make sure never to pay for any uncompleted work. Or better yet if you don't really like someone and they need a contractor, recommend Mike to them instead.
