I am so glad to see that this place is permanently closed! I have been meaning to write a review for it ever since we stayed there 2-3 years ago because it was such a bad experience for us. Firstly, as the other person wrote, there were surprise charges so we ended up paying a lot more than we had expected. When I pointed out how annoying this was to people from other countries (where the total price is always quoted-unlike Canada where taxes and other fees are often hidden) the owner became quite rude and even told me that if I wanted to pay less for accommodation that I should consider budget options instead! This condescending attitude also applied to my feedback regarding the afternoon tea being cold and how frustrating it was to come back in from the cold and be forced to make a cup of tea with lukewarm water. How hard is it to provide a kettle so guests can boil their own water for tea? When I suggested this to the owner, she just said that I could have asked the kitchen staff to warm up the water. But why didn't she explain this to us upon arrival? We were there during winter and I found the outside stairs and walks dangerous because of the snow and ice on them. When I pointed this out to the owner, she told me they clear them once a day. Obviously this is not enough during snowy conditions like we had when we were there! I did find the rooms very interesting and well decorated (quaint old style) And the food in the restaurant was also good and served by very friendly staff. But the unfriendly and snobbish personality of the owner made me decide never to stay there again!

Although the temperature was in the mid 30's the air conditioner failed to work. We had no assistance from the staff who seemed incapable to help us! The owner was away at a funeral. When we did get to speak to her she was very irate and quite rude. She had said that the air conditioning was working but she was wrong! As I have high blood pressure that heat for me was intolerable. We had no alternative but to leave, late at night, and travel back home. She did give us a credit note, good for a year. But when we tried to use the credit note i.e. sell it to someone on kijiji the rooms seemed unavailable! We paid $1800 for two bedrooms. We never got to sleep there! We paid for a gourmet meal which the owner did not reimburse us for. NOT IMPRESSED.

I called to book a weekend away for my husband and I, at the time I was told our package price, $650 + $85 extra for the 2nd massage. At no time was I told that 15% gratitiy is charged to your credit card automatically OR that my card would be charged at time of booking and they did not have a cancellation policy. I found this out when I called the following day advising that I had to cancel due to child care issues. This is when Stephanie became quite rude with me and told me they would issue a credit note because the "package" was already mailed out on Friday and I would have a year to use it. I told her that when I called on the phone (they do not do online bookings) that they did not advise their cancellation policy was no cancellations, Stephanie essentially told me too bad. Based on these facts I would never ever recommend to anyone to stay there. They do not disclose all information and told me they "hand write everything".
