We live in the Orillia area and I have known Colum from Select Roofing and his team since 2015 when he installed a new steel roof on our house. Since then we have had numerous positive comments on how the roof looks and it truly looks as good as the day it was installed. This year I decided to build a 24x24 garage and there was no question who would be installing the roof. I reached out to Colum with my concerns that the roof was over 8 years old and maybe the roofing was no longer be available. He did a great job hunting down the exact steel roofing material, which was tricky because he longer carried my roofing manufacture. I have been in the trades my whole life and have always done my work. I have heard and seen the stories of roofing contractors not showing up when they promised or not staying in touch when they say they will, Colum is not one of those contractors!! The garage roof looks great, I had to push out the install dates I had arranged with Colum a couple times but he took it in stride. His team showed up and hammered the roof out in no time. The guys where great and where having a ball at work, they where courteous and respectful to mine and my neighbors' propertyeven asking permission to set up a ladder which I found out later from my neighbor. Every bit of garbage was cleaned up and a nail magnetic was used to make sure nothing was let behind. I can with full confidence recommend Colum and his team at Select Roofing as a premium roofing contractor. His professionalism, knowledge of his products and quality of his installers make it easy. When my wife and I were looking to spruce up our house we knew that a new metal roof could make a big improvement, curb appeal and overall, a good investment. The last roof we had was some 15 years old (25yr shingles) and were starting to fail as with asphalt they tend to blow off during March/early spring storms. We did a search of local roofing companies and found Select Metal Roofing. I contacted Colum and in 1 day he was here to show me samples and discuss metal roofing products. He suggested we go with "Wakefield Bridge Mika Black" installed over one layer of asphalt. We were supplied a written quote that was competitively priced that became our written contract. The crew that installed the roof were great, they showed up when they said they would and completed the job 100% to perfection. Well, I am so thrilled with the choice we made! It has been 6 months and there isn't a day go by we pull into our driveway appreciating the beauty of a metal roof. This past two weeks we have had the strongest windstorms, Ice and bad weather and for the first time I don't have to worry about my roof! what a relief that is! I had done research on metal roofing to convince myself that it was better than shingles. In the past, asphalt shingles were much cheaper, but now steel roofing prices are much more competitive. And if you consider the lifespan of the two, it's an obvious choice. Colum Smyth confirmed it. I went with Select because Colum had the style, colour, and type of metal roofing (convincing me to go with interlocking over large panel or standing seam). But very important for me too was the price. I entertained many proposals and was able to work with Colum to satisfy my budget. The crew was punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
