This chess club used to be a great place on Monday evenings for young beginners, say 5-9 years old, to gain their first OTB experiences in their "White" Junior Tournament. Very unfortunately, those beginners are suddenly forced to use chess clocks with a 10-minute time limit, which is Blitz! according to FIDE (or "quick" chess according to the CFC as they don't seem to have enough tournaments to distinguish between blitz and active chess). The whole purpose of learning to think has been turned into an unduly stressful experience as they are mostly fighting against the clock. As one of the young players told me: "I'm just making a lot of random moves so that I don't immediately lose on time." Very sad. Zero stars for that. I hope this sudden change can be reverted and a more meaningful approach can be found if the introduction of chess clocks into the "White" Junior Tournament cannot be avoided.
