There was an open house viewing for a town house in Mississauga hosted by Zezza Collia Realty, a member of Sutton Group Quantum Realty. My wife & I are Black, and Franca Collia racially profiled us. After entering, Franca immediately came to the door and said she was doing a pre-approval process, and started questioning us about if we knew the price of the house, what our budget was, and what we can and cannot afford. We were taken aback that this is how we were greeted, and just said no and left. The place was in our budget, my wife is a Dr and I work in Tech, but if that's how you first greet people, we wanted nothing to do with that property. Regardless of our profession, it was an OPEN HOUSE, it was open for people to come view the place. And the pre-approval process was only done to us. A white couple came after and I remained outside where I did not hear you ask them if they could afford the place. If you want to give Zezza Collia Realty your business, that's you're decision, but clearly they only want a certain type of client and racially profile. UPDATE: In reply to the owner response below: 1. The script that your seller client allegedly required you to use, it was done to us, a Black couple, and not to the white couple that came after. Do you care to explain why? 2. In your own response you state that it was a PUBLIC open house, so why is there even a script/pre-approval process in the first place to deny entry? 3. Why did you not properly advise your client that it would be problematic to create a barrier to entry at a PUBLIC open house? The first words out of Franca's mouth was not "Hello, how are you?", it was "Do you know how much this house costs?"
