The Open Door has been life changing for my gifted and dyslexic now-13 year old. Like many other very bright kids, he was not identified until later (Gr 4) as the giftedness and dyslexia were masking each other. Now in Gr 8, he was recently described as a "speed reader" by a classmate. When I say that The Open Door and his tutor have changed his life, I'm not exaggerating. They were recommended by the psychologist who did his educational assessment and we could not be happier.

Open Door has been wonderful for my son. It's really helped his reading come along and his tutor is so nice and patient with him.

TL/DR: They saved my son's life!!!! Long Story: The public school board let us down. It wasn't until a grade 4 teacher actually read with my son that a problem was raised for us. We paid for a consultation with a professional Psychologist who gave us the diagnosis - Dyslexia, and the worst kind/combination. He was 10. We were told by his 11th birthday he needed to re-wire his brain to learn to read with his circumstance or it would be too late. We were recommended by the Psychologist to The Open Door. We put a post on Facebook and another friend said they used The Open Door too and had nothing but positive things to say. We took the plunge and reached out to Leigha Brigham. She came to our home (pre-covid) and met with us and our son. Within minutes our shy son was fully engaged. We were assigned a tutor that had a huge task ahead of her. Meet with our son every day as we were on a crazy timeline to get 90-120 hours in 8-9 months. Most kids in this program start once or twice a week in grade 1 or grade 2. We were now in June of that year (end of grade 4). Our son was currently reading the wrong way with zero comprehension. Our tutor met with our son at his school for one hour every day. By February (mid-grade 5) our son completed all 10 stages of the program and was now readying at a high school level. She did such an amazing job we didn't want to let her go and had her run other courses that they offered to help prepare our son for middle school and high school. He wasn't the only son we had participated with The Open Door. We moved our youngest son from French Immersion to English and thought why not get him the same tutor and run him through the same program that his big brother used. He had no learning issues, but the delivery of the program, the quality of the instruction and the flexibility to reschedule when life gives you lemons...it was a no-brainer for us. In summary - we had our oldest son, worst case dyslexia meet with his tutor EVERY DAY and never once complained. It was actually something he always looked forward to. When you asked what did you do at school, it wasn't recess or other classes he would talk about, it was what he did with his tutor. When I said at the top The Open Door, his tutor, saved his life, it's true. Our son is not a dummy. But he would have been perceived as one by most people in the future because what dummy can read but not comprehend or remember. So yeah, they saved his life. His grades in school have been trending up and most importantly he is happy, happy with himself, his image and how others perceive him. When we tell teachers or hockey coaches our kid has a learning disability (the worst combo of dyslexia) they sometimes call BS because it's not obvious. That's "The Open Door" effect. We have recommended many people to them and will keep doing so. We are happy to discuss with you if you made it this far.

My friend recommended The Open Door to me, and I am so happy she did! My daughter was in Grade 6, but reading at a grade 1 level. We had invested MANY hours with a well known Center for Learning, with little improvement. However, I could tell from the first month with The Open Door that this system would WORK. In the last year and a half, my daughter has gone from a kid who wouldn't even try to read a sentence to one who loves to read independently! I am so glad that we found The Open Door!
