Zero Star for MOWAM: Looks like I am not the only one with a horrible experience with the volunteer work at MOWAM: they first hire you, then they dump you for no reasons: Cavell Hart at first never scheduled an interview with me, but asked me to fill out a series of forms wanting to collect my personal information. She let me wait for 10 days to get an interview - fine, since I have the leisure to wait. Then she spent 2 minutes on the phone interview and promised me volunteer training session to start off the work, which she said she would get back to me by the end of the day. At the end of the day, she wrote to me a email "thanking" me for applying, and rejected my application, saying there were many applications for the volunteer position - who would start talking about scheduling training sessions if one is not hired first. Best advice: do not volunteer for this organization if you can.

My wife and I volunteered for about a year with Meals on Wheels & More (MOWAM) in 2016/2017. Previously, we were volunteers with Meals on Wheels (the larger, unaffiliated organization for over 5 years) and won many volunteer recognition awards. The experience with MOWAM was horrible!! Karen Leung (and later, Bill Krever) made volunteering a nightmare! We reported issues in the meal packing/delivery - such as improper containers for soups, which then spilled all over the car and the client's food - and they didn't take kindly to the criticism. We also started taking a photo of the route sheet in order to improve security (i.e. in case a paper route sheet was lost it would compromise client security). In the end, they "fired" us for the latter (taking a picture of a route sheet) citing security/privacy concerns - even though it was much more secure than a paper copy and we always deleted the picture after route completion. In reality, they were just upset that we were a "thorn in their side", by trying to made the operation better/more efficient. I really hope this organization does not receive government funding and if it does, that they come under better scrutiny! Karen and Bill definitely don't have any sense of how to run a proper volunteer-based organization. It really is sad. I would think twice and do your homework/research before trusting any of their services to your loved ones...
