I was a patient of Dr Maarten Reinders for over 20 years. Loved him as a dr and when he left I was sad to see him go! I have to admit I was nervous to see his replacement! Right away when I saw Dr Heather Laakso I respected and really liked her! I never went to the office much until I had a very tough year a year ago! I was going regularly! I was so happy to have her looking after me! She bent over backwards to make sure all my needs were taken care of! She made me feel taken care of by ordering tests that we felt were necessary. I survived that year because of her, I got better because of her care and her great office staff that looked after me! I appreciate her time, caring manner, knowledge, compassion and kindness every time I go into to see her! My family and this community is very lucky to have her and I consider myself very lucky to have been chosen to be in her practice!

My doctor (Dr. Laakso) is FANTASTIC. I have been chronically ill for 3 years now. Finally, because of her I was able to figure out the last piece of the puzzle to my mystery symptoms. No matter what has been going on, I have ALWAYS been able to rely on her. She is what ever doctor should aspire to be. Unfortunately, this past week I had a horrible interaction with the office reception that has left me questioning if getting care is worth the effort. And I know I NEED care. I waited a month for my appointment. When I arrived, the receptionist took my health card, then ask me a second time if I had an appointment. They were unable to find my appointment, even though I scheduled it on the phone, double checked the date and time, and clarified I needed to bring my diagnostic paperwork, not submit it beforehand. The receptionist told me my appointment was scheduled for January 2022, instead of 2023, by mistake. When I asked what this meant for me, they said I was to come back in a month for a new appointment. I told them I had waited a month for my appointment already and live a distance away. They simply repeated the new schedule date. When I pressed further, they repeatedly told me if, SHE wants to see you, shell call. With someone waiting behind me, they then loudly expressed, This appointment is to talk about your (insert mental health) diagnosis, yes? Yes. Yeah, if she wants to see you, shell call. They already knew what the appointment was for from the appointment notes, and I had provided them with my diagnostic report, it was completely unnecessary and demoralizing the way they used my diagnosis. It felt diminishing and like my need for help wasnt real. No effort, AT ALL, was made to tell the doctor that an error was made and a regular patient was here for her in the waiting room. In anticipation for this appointment, I RESTRUCTURED my life. Knowing I would likely need to try multiple medications and acclimate to them, I took a month long leave from work. I am also starting university again this week. I planned my appointment around this, giving me time to get used to medications before exams. I had also been in the middle of a double flare-up from a separate dual diagnosis. I drove 35 minutes each way in agony. This error changed my life literally. And for all this careful planning and decision making, I wasnt even apologized to. The emotional pain and financial loss has left me wondering where to get care. Im confident your doctors will be great. Ive only had EXCELLENT experience until now. I know I had a rare experience. But if youre physically, chronically ill, and have a mental health challenge, an experience like this is hard to hard to overcome.
