BE AWARE OF THIS LAWYER! MR. NIZAR FAKIRANI is an unprofessional lawyer and I, as his female client, experienced gender discrimination from him. He also over charged us by almost double than what he had initially quoted us. Mr. Fakirani was rude and dismissive to me yet not so much to my husband. He treated my husband with a little respect and me with no respect. He spoke to my husband calmy yet spoke down to me and raised his voice at me when addressing my questions, several times during the two in person meetings we had with Mr. Fakirani. I also did not feel welcomed in his office. When I visited his office to go over the invoice and collect a cheque, his first response was to ask me why I had come instead of my husband as it appeared he was not expecting me to arrive without my husband and clearly was not interested in talking to me as his client but would rather only deal with my male spouse. This, to me, was extremely rude and unacceptable not only as a client but also as a woman who strongly believes in women's rights, who deserves equal treated to what my husband would receive. At this point I felt violated but still remained calm. As the meeting when on, I asked for clarification on the HAND WRITTEN invoice which was not completely legible. Looking through the invoice I noted many discrepancies and vague charges. He became annoyed when I began asking him questions regarding the services we were paying him for and when I was requesting more clarification about the list of charges on the invoice, which were not documented in detail. Keep in mind, he had told me to make a list of questions if I wanted clarification. Not only was he annoyed but his demeanor was defensive and demeaning. He was mostly reluctant to answer and after about 10 min into the meeting he began flailing his arms and huffing and puffing in utter annoyance which I thought was very childish and absolutely uncalled for not to mention extremely unprofessional for a man in his position. I felt very insulted at this point and uncomfortable. The meeting ended abruptly and distasteful with a lot of yelling both ways. By this point he had accused me of calling him a cheat which was not true and only his imagination ( perhaps he felt he had cheated us as he had charged us more than double than what he had initially quoted us). To add to the insult, he had the audousity to say we shouldn't be so bothered to pay his fees totalling 6.5k for his services if we could afford a property over a million dollars (closing a sale of a house and closing a purchase of a house plus bridging fees for a periodof 3 months). He should be reprimanded and evaluated by his governing body. I believe there should be a code of conduct in place for all lawyers to abide by. I reached out to 4 other lawyers after this incident to get advice and these lawyers were very helpful and sympathetic. They also assured me that the charges were unprecedented and extremely high for the services provided. They were also appalled at the treatment we received in addition to the charges we incurred. My husband contacted Mr. Fakirani regarding the over charges I had noted and he agreed to look over them again and further discuss the charges with him only after the formal documents would be prepared ( furthure phone calls and discussions did not involve me at all leaving me feeling excluded). After a little over 2 months, Mr. Fakirani finally provided formal printed documents and invoices and returned approx. $2800 only after we made him realize that he had over charged. If you or anyone you know might be using Mr. Fakirani law services, be aware and check your invoice thoroughly because this lawyer is not to be trusted.
