This review is of Dr. Raymond Chan who I believe practices at this office. My father is blessed to have had many great doctors looking after all these years, but unfortunately I don't believe Dr. Raymond Chan is one of them. Like all specialists, we wouldn't know how they are until we see them as it is by referral only in Ontario. I hope my review will help others who will do a better job than me in researching beforehand. In short, Dr. Chan had prescribed strong medications with high dosage for my father that caused concerns, and in my opinion his attitude is insincere and unprofessional. If you care to read more, here is our story and you can be the judge yourself... My father was referred to him after moving to Markham about a year ago. His heart / blood pressure condition have been stabilized by the Cardiologist back in our home town, and we did communicate and express that to Dr. Chan in our first visit. However, Dr. Chan had other plans and he has increased my father's medications on multiple occasions. About 2 weeks ago my father fainted and fell after taking one of the new medications he has prescribed. I spoke with the ER doctor who looked after my father after his fall, and he told me that my father fainted because his blood pressure dropped to 80/40 caused by this new medication, and in his word (not exact since it happened 2 weeks ago) - "that is a fairly strong blood pressure pill, I am not sure why it was given to him. The dosage is 5x higher than what I would recommend to someone his age. This amount would be considered strong for a young adult.". My father is 78 yrs old as I am writing this, and he had multiple surgeries in the recent years. While he is not unhealthy, he definitely does not look like a strong healthy elder. How can a specialist prescribed something that is 5x over? I can understand 1x and even 2x, but 5x... really!? And this is not the first time that Dr. Chan increased a medication where it might have cost damage to my father's health. He also increased one of the other medications previously to 4x of what my father used to take while his condition was stable. As soon as our family doctor found out of this change, he called personally and lowered the dosage back for us (thank god). In terms of Dr. Chan's attitude - He always appeared to be nice and friendly when he greets is at the waiting area and at the beginning of all our visits, however, that changes after about 5-10 min into the appointment. He quickly becomes very rush and unfriendly. He would not make eye contact with us, nor would he answers any of our questions and concerns. I once had to stand by the door and refused to leave in order to have him answer my mom's concern on why a stress test (walking/running on treadmill) was scheduled for my 77yrs old father (at the time). I understand that is part of the testing and general procedures, but I don't think it's unfair for my mom to ask such a question and I definitely don't think Dr. Chan handled it very well by trying to brush my mom off. By the way, that was the ONLY question we had for that appointment. We have since changed to a different Cardiologist, and my father is once again happy and feel energized enough to come visit me and my kids. Personally, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I find it hard to do so w/ Dr. Chan. In fact, I blame myself for making the terrible mistake on keep having my father to see him after the first few incidents. I am very thankful that my father is still with me. I know this is unfair but in my most humble opinion, Dr. Chan sees my father as nothing but a number. I wholeheartedly wish that all physicians are driven and motivated by helping others, but unfortunately the reality is that some of them are driven by reasons other than that. Perhaps my father is a difficult case, and a part of me wish that it is true because I would never wish what happened to us to anyone (not even to my worst enemies).
