Apr-May 2023 update: During the April'23 job action by federal workers, they accepted only emergency cases i.e. wanted back-home Doctor's note as proof of illness/death. Showing your air ticket was not enough. Post-strike, May'23 they did not want to work an extra minute past their closing time 4PM, so they were turning away patrons at mezzanine level starting right at 1PM- citing huge crowds upstairs. Those who stayed were told to do so on their own risk -as service was not guaranteed. Many left. Later, the security person was doing triage of those adamantly standing in line & was giving preference to those who had an earlier travel date (with proof), somebody on wheelchair, or those who were submitting only one-person application. Pick-up service is extra $20. If you are submitting for your child, the minor doesn't have to be present; but then YOU must have your own ORIGINAL photo ID- even though the checklist does not mention it. All those mentioned as parents on child's birth certificate must sign the passport application form. The other parent- who is not the main 'applicant' - is allowed to become the guarantor - if hold valid passport. ************* ************** *********** During high rush times of Aug2022 for passports, even though the service Canada website says 'You must provide proof that you need the passport' for '3 to 45 business days' category of passports- the officers here DON'T require you to present things like - ticket/itinerary , proof of illness/death , written statement. You just mention the planned date of travel in the form's 1st page & this center will honor it. They are quite helpful & friendly. One gate security lady here may want to review her loudness though. Walk-ins only; it has no appointments webpage working now since covid is history, but they still want masks. Walk-ins generally dont need to all jump in at 7AM. After 1PM it becomes less crowded than mornings which are crazy 3.5 hours waits. Officers inside at the makeshift office were walking to a photocopy machine to make a copy of your citizenship certificate. They should better ask customers to bring a photocopy to save their own time! Then they share a single payment POS machine to accept $160 for your passport fees. This all consumes extra time & adds to the delays.
