I worked with this company through an employment agency in 2010. One evening there was not enough work, and the owner and the supervisor agreed that the temporary employees could just do four hours. It was OK for me because I realized that it was useless to stick around when there was no work. However, after I punched my card and was about to leave, the supervisor told me to stay. He said that some things came up and I could stay back and continue working... I was happy and immediately dropped my bags by the clock and went back to work without remembering that I had already punched out. The following week when I received my wages I saw that it was short by four hours, so I went to the boss, an East Indian Canadian. I explained that I was paid four hours less. The boss told me that he paid me according to the time card. I insisted that there was a mistake and for him to verify with the supervisor... He did not but chased me out of his office and told me that I had five minutes to get my stuff and leave. I took my case to the Ministry of Employment, and a few weeks later a lawyer called me and gave me a check for the money that was outstanding.
The boss of the company is a very ungrateful man. When he wanted people to work on Sundays and holidays I always cooperated. Many nights another employee and I were left to work throughout the night in the huge noisy factory. It was very dangerous because if my hands or clothing had caught in the CNC machine, the other employee could not have heard or seen...
