Carolyn Beach Inn & Restaurant

My friend and I stayed here on the way back from Lake Superior Park. Ideally I'd like to give a 3.5 star rating, which I consider very good. The location is amazing, with beautiful waterfront views while still being right off the highway. The staff we met were very nice. The room was nicely equipped and had a great view. There were a few issues. The rugs and linens in the room were a bit run down. The biggest issue though was the room smelled very strongly of chemical cleaners. It's great that you can tell it's been cleaned, but my friend and I both had slight headaches from the smell. It was overpowering when we got there. Opening the windows didn't help because there were small holes in the screens that the mosquitos got in through and we had to close them. Overall it's a great location, and a good rate. I was happy with the stay for a single night. As a spot to relax for an afternoon and night to split up a drive, it met our needs. I mainly mention the issues because they could be more of a problem for others. Specifically the cleaning chemical smell which could be bad for people with conditions like migraines. Noteworthy details: There's a gas station and coffee across the road, which is great if you are getting an early start driving.

Stayed one night. Lovely views from the room with sumac framing the lake. A dog's paradise, complete with dog beach area! Too bad the restaurant wasn't open in the off season, we arrived just as the sun was setting and it would have been a beautiful scene for a meal!
