We didn't even know where to start when first thinking about the possibility of a garden suite. Attending the webinar presentation and following up with a site assessment gave us all the information we needed to understand our options and feel equipped to begin on this journey. The genuine enthusiasm from the team is infectious, and at no point was there ever any sense of pressure or expectation to commit. I'd recommend the Architect Builders Collaborative as an excellent starting point for anyone considering a garden suite or laneway house.

All in all, nice people with lots of knowledge and beautiful design. However, it's clear to me now that time management is not their strong suit. Recommendation if you dont have the energy/knowledge/time to scrutinize billings, then consider looking elsewhere or negotiating a flat fee. UPDATE: I have read and considered the owners response. The unwillingness to take ownerships of mistakes made on the project has further soured the experience for us.

Following a recent webinar on Garden Suites presented by Daniel Hall at TABC, I signed up for a paid 20-minute private online session with Daniel Hall to go over any questions I had about garden suites. I will admit that I did a lot of preparation in advance of this session. I was very familiar with the Garden Suites by-law and had taken time to look at my lot survey to confirm that my backyard likely meets the requirements for a garden suite. Daniel took the time to look over and discuss my lot survey and photos with me, and go over the important requirements. He pointed out issues that may require Committee of Adjustments and highlighted potential issues that may affect the location and footprint size of the suite. Daniel was nice enough to spend additional time in the Zoom session to discuss possible solutions to address soft landscaping requirements and the construction of a basement in the suite. At the end of our conversation, I felt as though we had gone through a Preliminary Site Assessment. Perhaps I was lucky that Daniel had additional time to spare to discuss my plans for a garden suite. Suffice to say that I was very satisfied with the outcome of our meeting. Daniel took the time to listen before responding and seemed to be very passionate about sharing his experience and knowledge to help potential clients like me navigate the process to get closer to deciding on pursuing the construction of a garden suite that is sustainable and responsible.

Daniel was so helpful in giving advice on the options available to us for a Laneway house. He is extremely knowledgeable about all of the different pieces that need to be considered with a project like this and really knows the ins and outs of how to make it happen. Green construction!! Highly recommend!
