Found my new mechanic! I tried this place out after Master Mechanic told me they were booking appointments 2 weeks out. Called up MVP and I was in and out that day. I had ball joints replaced and an oil change. Paula explained everything to me in such thorough detail and even showed me my worn down parts and how/why they needed to be replaced. Super friendly and very professional. Highly recommend!

I brought my car in with an undiagnosed brake issue: when braking, it sometimes sounded like I was running over something, it sometimes lurched forward and the steering wheel was very shaky. After paying for a diagnostic assessment (the cost being the equivalent of what is considered at the high end of a full brake inspection according to 3 TO mechanics), I was told it was 2 possible issues: front brake rotors or a wheel bearing. The mechanic tested new rotors but that didn't resolve the problem, so I had a new wheel bearing put on, which was much more expensive. After getting the car back, the car was still having the exact same problem as when I brought it in. I took it back to the shop, having taken the time to listen more closely and describing more of the symptoms. They fixed it 'free of charge'. When I asked what the problem had been, I was told it was broken brake shoes on my rear brakes. According to the 3 other mechanics that I spoke with, based on my symptoms, a full brake inspection, of front and back brakes, should have been done when I first brought the car in. The real problem, the less expensive brake shoes, would have been diagnosed. Very likely, I would not have needed a new wheel bearing. First, I was having no major symptoms of that issue. Second, the car now runs the same way as prior to the broken brake shoes, with a slight shaking of the steering wheel that I've had for a long time, so the new wheel bearing didn't change anything. When I asked why the real issue had not been found at the time of the diagnostic, I was told they had only checked the front brakes, not the back ones, because I had said the issue was in the front. I never said the issue was in the front; I don't know anything about cars and had just described the symptoms listed above. I was also told that the brake shoes must have broken after the diagnostic, as there were a couple weeks between the diagnostic and the repair. However, brake shoes wear down and this issue would have been been visible if the rear brakes had been inspected. I understand people make mistakes and/or there are miscommunications and I don't think the initial intent was to be dishonest. However, it would have been nice if this could have been admitted and we could have come up with a financial resolution where I didn't pay for an expensive unnecessary part. Service: Brakes
