I was helped by someone who was absolutely fantastic. I told him the ages of my kids (two girls 7 and 4), what they liked to read, but more importantly I told him the types of things I did NOT want my kids to read (princess stuff, etc.). He made a bunch of recommendations, was super knowledgeable about all the books, and did a nice job of steering me towards some more independent books and graphic novels that I had never heard but had themes that I was looking for (adventuristic girls and feminist kittens). My kids absolutely love the books.

Staff went above and beyond to help me find some titles. Highly recommended, great selection for younger readers.

We ( the people of Toronto) are lucky to have Little Island Comics. The fact that a small independent comic book / book store can survive in here, in this day and age is a small miracle. I love taking my kids here. I have found that graphic novels are a great stepping stone on the way to full literacy for my children. Usually, we get them from the library, but sometimes, when it's something special, or a special occasion, I'll let them choose a keeper. They also have a small but good collection of French bande dessines (graphic novels) and some really interesting special subject books in comic book format (philosophy, medicine, history, etc).

What can I say? The staff were very helpful in making gift suggestions for our kids...and after we gave the kids their presents, they agreed!
