As a concerned patron of Tim Hortons, an esteemed franchise under the guardianship of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), I feel compelled to share an alarming issue pertaining to one of their locations in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Tim Hortons establishment located at 3433 North Road has, quite disconcertingly, become something of a makeshift homeless shelter. This situation, coupled with an entirely unresponsive management team, creates a scenario that is not only unsettling for the average patron but goes against the ethos of Tim Hortons and, indeed, RBI as a whole. One particular homeless individual, a woman, has become a permanent fixture at this establishment, spending anywhere from 6 to 18 hours on the premises daily. This is not just a nuisance to customers; it raises significant concerns regarding her welfare. Rather than taking steps to assist her or address the issue, the franchise management under Interwest Restaurants has chosen to turn a blind eye. What's even more egregious is that well-intentioned customers voicing concerns about the woman's wellbeing are met with inexplicable bans. Instead of fostering an open dialogue or demonstrating any semblance of empathy, the franchise is silencing the voice of the very community it is supposed to serve. This flagrant disregard for the rights and dignity of an individual with disabilities is not just an unfortunate oversight; it is a gross violation that goes against the basic tenets of human decency. RBI, as the parent company, has a responsibility to ensure that each of its franchises upholds the values and standards they purport to stand for. At present, it appears that this responsibility is being sorely neglected.
