New School of Finance

Wow! We worked with Colleen first to understand our needs and then Shannon for the household budgeting session. Shannon takes so much care to understand the numbers you send in beforehand. She then comes up with many scenarios and options for reaching your goal in a realistic and tax efficient manner. After completing the budgeting session, she dove into a few retirement scenarios which was a wonderful surprise. Before you consider another fee-for-service financial advisor, give the New School of Finance a try. Highly recommended!

The company charges in USD despite advertising all courses in CAD and despite their terms of service. This means that clients are charged more than the price listed. Really slimy, especially for a company focused on financial services and literacy.

I usually don't make the time to review things, but I had to step out and do it for New School! Absolutely wonderful experience!!! Kathleen was so down-to-earth and easy to communicate with, it felt like chatting with an old friend. My budgeting (or lack thereof) and knowledge of my spending was a complete disaster as I start several new journeys in my life. Once she crunched the numbers and we made a plan I was able to see, in concrete facts and numbers, that things were not as grim as I thought! And it really was a "we"; she listened to my priorities and compromised with me - and didn't even shame me for the kooky amount of money I spend on insurance for my new car (not the most well thought out financial decision). "Thanks again! Not many people can say they enjoyed a financial planning session, hahaha. On the way home I felt like a 5 ton weight had been lifted off of my shoulders; I may or may not have done a bit of a happy cry in the car. I already have everything set up and going, and have started griping in the store as I look at my "allowance" dwindling and have to choose what's important to me. I'm peer pressuring all of those friends with wayward finances taking over their life to come on in!" So if you make $20,000 or $200,000, if you're feeling a little lost up a creek without a paddle, get off your butt and go see them!
