I went to the Eaton Centre location to sell my used iPhone on Dec 28. It was close to 6 PM. There were three associates but no customer at the time. I approached a young guy that was closest to the counter and stated the purpose of my visit. He appeared to be new as any time I asked him something, he had to run to the female associate for answers. I did not get her name as she was not wearing a uniform. She had her coat on and backpack nearby. It must be the end of her shift. She told me the most critical piece of information for her to take the phone was the proof of purchase. I was surprised as I sold my used phone to Mobile Klink (MK) before. The only information they needed from me was my government issued photo ID. The phone was a gift to me 2 years ago and I do not have the receipt. I explained the situation to her along with the fact that I have an account with MK that was opened the first time I sold my phone to them. She was not flexible at all and insisted that the only way was to produce the original invoice or I'd have to resort to Kijiji. She said she would not be able process the transaction without the invoice. If such process exists, it must be in the company's written policy, so I asked her to show it me. She went on the company's website but could not find anything to that effect, yet still insisted that it was their policy and the system would not allow her to process the transaction without. It felt like she just insisted for the sake of not backing down at that point, which was really "good" customer service that in no way would be endorsed by MK. I then went on and asked her to examine the phone regardless the sale so that I knew how much I could get. She refused because according to her, the company's policy was that the whole process had to be completed with a sale. She could not just perform the first part. At this point, it was clear that she sounded more and more preposterous that I should not waste my time any further. I went to another MK location and completed the sale the same day. It is very unfortunate that good companies can have bad apples that could ruin the company's reputation.
