I had a very invalidating and traumatic experience there in 2018/19 which I am only able to unpack now. The first 'student' therapist was excellent but then she moved on and I was assigned therapy by a supervisor there who gaslit me and said she didn't believe me when I spoke of having trauma. I did not know that person was in a supervisory position but at my 'intake' I was seen by another supervisor who told me if I had any issues with my therapy I could reach out to her. When I reached out to the intake supervisor and she told me that the other person was an actual department head supervisor like her (and it didn't seem that my complaint would be met with any change in the organization), I was shocked and never went back. Given that there are so many options now since COVID, with the increase in free mental health resources due to more people suffering mentally, I would recommend trying anywhere else but there. They also have a room with a double mirror which is really creepy. My student therapist had trouble getting us a room for therapy and we had to use that room once. I wondered if my privacy was really protected during that session.

Jackie had nothing say when I spoke about surface level feelings regarding trauma (which I didn't even detail). She sighed loudly, remained silent, and only said "anything else before our meeting ends in 3 min?" Rude. It wasn't even the end of our appointment time. She refused to respond and just kept saying that this might be out of scope and I'm asking too much and she doesn't know if she's willing to work further and that she's not willing offer ideas in which client's deal with conflict. Then why are you even working at VAM? You can't even deal with client talking about an emotion? Absolutely horrendous reaction that went on for 30 min. I literally just spoke about feeling conflicted my healing journey and she was ready to hang up, told me this may not be a fit, refused to give a direct response, and said she'd call me in 5-6 weeks but couldn't confirm if she's willing to work with me further more share ideas on how to deal with my emotion. Probably one of the most unprofessional reactions I've ever experienced with a mental healthcare practitioner. She didn't even try to respond instead she wanted to just leave.
