We recently had a death in our family. We flew out of province immediately to make funeral arrangements, clean out the house entirely as the death had happened 2 weeks prior to finding the body. Lawyer advised us that it should be no problem being refunded our expenses (ie items from hardware store to secure home and outbuildings, curtains to cover main floor of the home, flights, accommodations etc) from the estate. Scotiabank advised us that they would not refund for these expenses because we could have just gone in a TRIP. They would only refund if we had invoices not just receipts. Their actions were disturbingly disrespectful and unsympathetic for what we had just gone through. If they would have gone through what we had just the week before, they would (guaranteed) not felt that it was a trip! EXTREMELY dissatisfied with Scotiabank and how a delicate situation was handled! Shame on you Scotiabank!
