My son went this afternoon to give blood for the first time at this centre and he was refused because he did not eat a big meal before his 2:45 pm appointment. For about 10 mins, he tried to explain to the rep that he does intermittent fasting and he eats a huge meal at night and that he does not need to eat during the day and that his body is absolutely used to that and that it is fine. The rep still refused. My son offered to eat the bag of chips that they give so that he can donate blood but he was told he has to eat a big meal and was still refused. He offered to sign that if anything happens, he would take the full risk but was still refused. Very disappointing when someone is trying to help and donate blood and he gets refused just because he did not eat a big meal right before his blood donation. Sad specially that there is a shortage in blood donations and sad because such a must eat rule is brushed on everyone but not everyone is the same. Not everyone has to eat 3+ times a day with snacks in between or else they will faint :(
