Chapman Piano Studio

I have been taking lessons for 4 years now, and I am so happy with my lessons. As an adult learner, my lessons are adapted to my particular needs, are fun and yet, I have learned so much about music in general, not just piano. Ben is an amazing teacher, I cannot reccomend him enough.

I have more years behind me than ahead of me so no more messing around! As an adult learner who took up piano in my 40s with a different teacher, I am so grateful to have found Dr. Ben Chapman! Jackpot! He has it all --he is incredibly knowledgeable (the benefits of a PHD!), skilled, creative, dedicated, inspiring, and endlessly enthusiastic. On the personality side, he is kind, respectful, empathetic, professional, and oh so clever and charming. His genuine passion for music and teaching was apparent in the first phone call I had with him and shines through in every lesson. I especially appreciate his ability to listen actively and to come up with creative solutions to address areas that need attention. He uses a variety of techniques and will find what works best for you! He is full of interesting facts and entertaining anecdotes as well. There is always something to learn. Importantly, I leave the lessons motivated and excited to practice! Being a busy professional and mom, I also appreciate the various tools that he uses and has created to make learning and organization of lessons and logistics efficient (e.g., mnemonics, practice spreadsheets with notes and pdfs of handouts, embedded links for recordings, organized schedules). I had no idea playing piano could be so rewarding and joyful! After only a year, I have become more mindful and self-compassionate as I play and Dr. Chapman has inspired me to work hard, be patient with myself, and to persevere. He is also great at picking pieces that challenge but do not overwhelm (and not just from the RCM books!). Beware adult learners, after taking lessons with Ben, you may want to give up your day job and play piano all day instead! :)
