Rock Solid Landscaping

We wanted to landscape the new back yard and seed it ourselves. Nothing fancy. I went to this well known, expensive company. I asked for advise on if this or how that would work. All I got was "Well what do you want?". No help there. After they had finished, the "topsoil" was not smoothed from high to low. I had to drag a bunch of high spots to fill in the low spots. I say "topsoil" because there was not one earth worm in it. There was no fibre in it. We used good seed, fertilized, and watered extensively. Literally, not even weeds grew. It was planted at the same time as field crops. Those were 6 - 8" tall and I had nothing. It rained 2". Two days later I stuck my finger in a couple inches and it was dry. They ground cracked quickly in the heat, more than I've ever seen. I called multiple times about it and all I got was the excuse that it was his supplier. He never even came to look at the problem. He said I should seed again. He stated that sometimes they have to seed 2 or 3 times for the city. This should not happen. They had left, the machinery was all gone, and the job was "done". I came home. Yards of my expensive river rock and gravel had been pushed across the alley onto city property and in front of, blocking, the main utility boxes. The alley was all torn up with major ruts from the use of a skid steer. The entire job was shoddy and since then I have been told by more than one person of similar experiences.
