I had arranged through Expedia to rent a vehicle from Economy Rent A Car in Winnipeg on March 23rd. Having seen some of the negative reviews, I had called them the day before to address concerns about unlimited mileage (4,000 k was plenty for me) and the free shuttle from the airport (take a taxi and they would pay for it). Thankfully I was skeptical of the shuttle arrangement so I arranged to have family meet our party at the airport and drive us to the nearby offsite location of the car rental. There were three renters ahead of me in line and it soon became apparent that they had cars for, wait for it...none of us. how many others before or after us I can only imagine. I know cars are hard to come by these days but seriously, what kind of an operation is this? I was told that a vehicle may come available sometime after 5PM (it was noon at that moment)...but we close at 5PM. As they had my Visa number on file., I asked for a confirmation of cancellation but was told they could not print that off for me so I had to move around the desk and take a picture of the screen showing the cancellation. Because I did not prepay and was fortunate enough to have a very crowded family vehicle waiting as a contingency, I was able to get where I needed to go that day. Others (at least two families and an individual) were not so fortunate. Very poor service and there was nothing I could do about it...except this. Beware!
